How much vitamins do we need?
Find out what vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and aminos your body really needs for optimal health.
The importance of micronutrient balance
Many people focus only on macronutrient balance (protein, carbohydrates, fat). And many others focus only on vitamins. However, micronutrient balance (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, anti-oxidants) is very important, and simple vitamin testing alone is not enough to give you the whole picture. Micronutrients are essential for all systems in your body to function properly. Every vitamin, mineral, antioxidant, and amino acid has important and specific roles for your body to maintain good health. However, if you are taking supplements that your body really doesn’t need, you may be wasting money and potentially harming your health. Many micronutrients can be toxic or cause unwanted side effects if taken in too high a dose.(More than 60,000 instances of vitamin toxicity are reported each year to poison control centers in the U.S.) Too much of certain vitamins and minerals can cause milder symptoms, such as sleeplessness, difficulty in concentrating, fatigue, irritability, or numbness. However, toxic levels of other micronutrients can cause more severe troubles including nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nerve damage, and even hair loss!
Micronutrient deficiency symptoms
Studies show that 50% of Americans have one or more micronutrient deficiencies. And many of those people experience some of the many symptoms of micronutrient deficiency, such as: fatigue; lower immunity; muscle cramps; brittle hair or nails; dry or itchy skin; allergies; irritability; depression; hyperactivity; numbness or tingling sensation; and poor night vision. Research has also shown a link between weight gain and micronutrient deficiency. Unfortunately, this fact is often overlooked when considering the causes of weight gain or the lack of weight loss while in a weight loss program. At InShape Medical, however, we take a more holistic approach to weight loss and wellness.
InShape Medical uses advanced nutritional testing
The nutritional tests used at InShape Medical are more advanced than many other clinics. Traditional micronutrient testing only looks at a snapshot in time of micronutrient levels in your blood, and typically may only do simple vitamin testing. Further, these traditional static blood tests are not looking at how your body is using these nutrients at a cellular level. At InShape Medical, we use SpectraCell Laboratories for our advanced micronutrient testing. This comprehensive testing goes far beyond simple static vitamin testing. SpectraCell has developed a unique way to scientifically evaluate the intracellular needs of 34 different and important micronutrients. This advanced test measures the biochemical function of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids. These micronutrients are very important to your overall health and wellness. The micronutrient test results are given in a comprehensive report that also provides you with targeted nutrient repletion recommendations for the deficiencies identified. The test results coupled with repletion recommendations and a consultation with one of our nutritional therapists, gives you powerful personal nutritional information that can help you to improve your nutrition, health, and wellbeing.
